On Monday 18th March 2024, our Eco Council representatives (plus Miss Robinson and Mrs Haeger) enjoyed supporting the Parish Council to plant 800 trees on Mill Lane Park.
Thanks to Mr Gardner and Mrs Broad for inviting our children to participate in the Miyawaki tree planting project.
Planting trees is one of our best defences against climate change. They absorb carbon, cool cities, prevent floods, clean air and protect wildlife. Planting more trees isn’t just about saving cute animals, it’s about safeguarding our health, homes and future.
Why use Miyawaki Method for the tree planting?
Because trees planted together, help each other.
All the species we plant can be found growing wild in close proximity to the planting site. This tells us that these species are well suited to the local growing conditions and support an abundance and diversity of wildlife locally. Most of the species support a range of moth species. Where you get moths, you get bats, so, by extension, they also support bats, even if the bats aren’t living within the micro forest itself.
The woodland will be created in layers.
