Welcome to Reception!
In Reception we provide a stimulating and exciting environment where the children have access to both indoors and outdoors every day. To ensure our environment is engaging, we plan our topics from your child’s interests and through daily assessment we incorporate what your child needs to achieve their individual next steps.
We work and play very hard every day, with a mixture of whole class, small group, 1-1 and individual activities which can be adult or child led. We always have lots of fun and we do like to get messy at times! Our PE session is on a Friday afternoon.
We encourage the children in Reception to read every night and we change reading books at the beginning of the week and again at the end of the week. The children also have ‘Tricky Words’ to practise in their reading diaries ready for their ‘Tricky Word Quiz’ every Thursday.
We like to keep our parents up to date by sending half termly curriculum letters with curriculum information and key dates. We also have an open door policy at the end of the day so that our parents can call in for a chat if they need to. We also send out observations of each child every half term so our parents can see what we have been up to!
In Reception we aim to create lasting memories and help our children develop a real love for learning.

Flower Pot Competition
In Nursery and Reception we have had some amazing entries for our ‘Flower Pot Competition.’ There have been some really imaginative ideas and fabulous creations. Well done to everyone- our Early Years outdoor areas are looking great and very colourful. Thank You.
Breakfast with Santa
The children had breakfast at school and enjoyed a visit from Santa!
In Reception we have been learning about different Christmas Traditions. This week we have joined in with the traditions of Hungary. We got busy washing our wellies and left them in the window for Mikulas (Saint Nicholas). The children were delighted to find chocolate coins, hot chocolate and cookies had been left for them. We listened to Christmas carols and enjoyed our hot chocolate whilst reading Christmas Stories together.
The Reception children enjoying their mini wheelers session learning to ride on balance bikes.
