Miss K. Pugh
Mrs. J. Hynes
Welcome to Year Three! I am Miss Pugh and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Hynes. I am very proud of the children in Year Three. They have made an excellent start to the year and I am sure they will continue their hard work throughout the spring and autumn terms.
In year three we have Maths and English every morning and topic subjects in the afternoons. In addition we have daily SPAG (spellings, punctuation and grammar) sessions and guided reading sessions. P.E takes place on Tuesdays and swimming lessons will take place on Fridays, at Nye Bevan, during the spring and summer terms. Details of the year three curriculum are documented on a class curriculum letter and given out at the beginning of each term.
The children have reading books and journals; homework will alternate weekly from times tables practise to spelling lists. We would greatly appreciate any support you could offer at home. I look forward to a great year ahead with my current Year Three class!
Chester Zoo Visit
Year 1 and Year 3 enjoyed a wonderful day at Chester Zoo learning about various zoo animals.
Boys Football Team
Year Three took part in a whole school science day organised by Mr Purcell, our science coordinator. We became space explorers for the day. It was our challenge to investigate different rocks in order to choose which one would be best for a space building on Mars. We tested the rocks strength using scrapers, the rocks permeability using water and pipettes and we also tested if the rocks were magnetic or not. We concluded from our results that granite, obsidian, dolerite and marble were the best rocks for our space building as they were all strong, non-permeable (do not let water in) and non-magnetic making them suitable for space! We designed our space buildings and labelled them with the rock we decided upon. To finish we presented our results in a whole school assembly. It was an extremely fun, science packed day! Thank you Mr Purcell!
